Download the PDF for a guide to playing short mat bowls

Short mat is the easiest and most accessible of all the bowls disciplines, particularly for people with limited mobility.  Playing short mat bowls is good exercise and the social side is great too.

Bowlers play short mat bowls indoors, all year round in community centres, social clubs, village and church halls all over the country. Competitive matches take place at club, county and national levels for those bowlers who enjoy a challenge.

The sport of short mat bowls is a shortened version of lawn bowls; the same rules apply to both sports.  The game takes place on lightweight, portable bowling carpets, measuring approximately 14 metres by 2 metres.
